Artist Statement
My work focuses on painting everyday city scenes based on photographs I take—places like Plaza Mayor or the flower shop at Tirso de Molina. These familiar yet poetic spaces help me explore how place and memory shape our sense of identity. As I document Madrid, I carry with me the textures and stories of South Texas. In the future, I plan to turn my focus back to my hometown, painting it with the same care and curiosity I give to the streets of Madrid.
In addition to her visual work, Josie enjoys singing and plays both piano and guitar. These musical practices often influence the rhythm, emotion, and layered structure of her artistic process. She is currently based in Madrid, Spain, where she continues to create, teach, and expand her multidisciplinary practice.
